If you would like to join us, you could have us process your fleece and sell the yarn, or, if you would rather, trade us your fleece for a breeding to one of our outstanding herdsires. Such as: Interceptor, our true black champion, Felipi, our champion brown suri, Goldschlauger our multiple blue ribbon wnner, or Zoltan, our Zephyrus son, with the best fleece and conformaton on the farm. Located on a 33 acre farm in Mars, we discovered the joy of owning alpacas as one of our three family owned businesses. We bought our first alpaca back in the year 2001, brought them here to our farm in the year 2003, and have been building barns and fencing new pasture since then.
A day care center owned and managed by Linda Santa and operated by Julie, Bethany, and Leigh Santa, and a custom cabinet shop owned and operated by Michael Santa, and the alpaca farm owned by Jack and Linda, and managed by Andrew Santa (15), keeps everyone at the Santas busy and happy.
As a teacher for 33 years and an owner of a day care center for 21 years, I loved the idea of having animals close by for the children who spend their days with us when their parents are at work. We have bred Labradors, so children in our day care can see and play with puppies.
Now we have alpacas that children can visit daily and learn all about their fiber. To further this idea of educating children about alpacas, we have begun an alpaca adventure for groups of children to visit the farm and the alpacas. Alpaca Lessons will be customized for the age of the group.
We also will travel to the children, visiting schools and other day care centers. Classes will include an age-appropriate project, such as felting, spinning, and even knitting. We will visit the boy scout jamboree this summer so the boys can learn about the history of alpacas and their fate at the hands of the Spanish conquistadors.
